9-year 'Casascius' Bitcoins sold with a price increase

In early 2010, a Bitcointalk user named "Casascius", whose real name was Mike Caldwell, started creating physical Bitcoins with real Bitcoin inside. Each piece contained a secret "private key" under the hologram. In addition, the first 8 characters of the associated Bitcoin address were engraved outside of each coin.

Products created mostly for collections and gifts were on sale until November 2013. There were different versions of Casascius Bitcoins with 0.1, 0.5, 1, 10, 25, 100 and 1000 Bitcoins.

As time passed, Casascius Bitcoins became increasingly valuable. One of them was even put up for sale on eBay for $ 99,000 last year, which is only for 1 BTC.

The number of Casascius Bitcoins opened with a price increase increased

With the Bitcoin price reaching its peak levels again, the number of Casascius Bitcoins opened has increased. On November 26, one of these 25 BTC collectibles, untouched since 2011, was sold. The next day, a Casascius Bitcoin worth 1 BTC was disposed of, and on December 1, another 25 BTC Casascius Bitcoin created in 2012 broke down. Finally, one with 25 BTC today opened more years later. It was created in 2013.

According to CasasciusTracker, which monitors the movements of Casascius Bitcoins, the number of Casascius Bitcoins opened surpasses those that have not yet been opened. The latest data show that Casascius Bitcoin worth about 46 thousand BTC has been cashed so far, and an amount of 45 thousand 300 BTC has not yet been opened.
